You mean we have a Secertary of State?

There is one thing I have to say that I like about the Obama Administration. They put Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in a box. They have effectively put her aside and shut Former President Bill Clinton up. It’s a feat few politicians have been able to do since either Clinton was visible on the national scene.
The reasoning for the virtually complete lack of coverage of Secretary Clinton seems to be multiple. There is the fact that no one wanted the media to connect her and her campaign to the conviction of Norman Hsu. There is the fact that putting her in a box prevents her from establishing a presence to try to run against President Obama in 2012. There is the fact that the Obama’s don’t like the Clinton’s, at all.
It’s a great plan too. Secretary Clinton has been useless and unseen since almost right after her confirmation. Up until the most recent comments about North Korea you would be hard pressed to know that she was even in the Administration. President Obama has handled almost every aspect of foreign relations directly, too bad it can’t be said that he was effective as well.
It puts Secretary Clinton into an interesting position. If she stay on as Secretary of State she will continue to be mostly ignored. She will be relegated to the most trivial of tasks, or to tasks that she can’t resolve. Thus making a bid for the Presidency a moot point as she will have nothing to stand on. But if she leaves the White house, then she is a quitter and incapable of handling the pressure that the Presidency requires.
Essentially, unless North Korea suddenly caves to the same pressure that the U.S. has placed on it for the last 2 or 3 decades, Secretary Clinton is stuck in a position that has been made powerless. Something that I am sure she did not expect in her bargain for the position. Had she known how pathetic her Cabinet position would be, I’m sure she would have bargained for more than just the $20 million in debt and the title.
But when I consider the chance of a Clinton Presidency, cold chills run down my back. As bad as President Obama has run the economy and foreign relations, I believe that Secretary Clinton would still be far worse. A truly terrifying thought.
A friend of mine surmised that the only chance Secretary Clinton has is if an international crisis was to arise while President Obama was away (like at Camp David). And she was able to rush to the cause before President Obama could muster a response. Not that he is in an rush to respond to international events, ie. Iran’s elections.
Such are the internal politics of the Democrat Party. Now if only Vice President Biden could be muzzled, that would really be a treat.
