The Subway Presidential Race
For those displaced New Yorkers living in other parts of the country, this is for you. [Especially everyone from Brooklyn that seem to be everywhere but Brooklyn] It’s a sarcastic item by Noreen O’Donnell about the potential for a 3 way race for the Presidency by candidates from New York State.
I wouldn’t call it a positive item, it’s not very flattering. To say that these are criticisms heard about New York from around the country is an understatement. Still there is a humor in it. Not the intended one, since I am from the City I took it in the opposite manner intended. I found it funny how fearful some may be of the City.
Now I’m not saying that there aren’t problems. Mayor Bloomberg is anti-smoking, virtually anywhere, anti-fatty foods, and who knows what else if he had the power of the executive branch. Senator Clinton is a Southern carpetbagger, with more ambition for the Presidency than several candidates combined. And former mayor Guilliani can be called hyper-defensive.
On the other hand they have their strengths the nation needs as well. Strong economic skills, improved healthcare, and international respect (and due fear in some countries) are all qualities that can benefit the nation. The fact is that NY demands attention, and earns it. But as the king-of-the-hill everyone wants to knock us off the top. It seems that includes our candidates. Yet the question remains, would a subway Presidential race be a bad thing?
